Write Now!

This blog started as a 'Lenten Writing Project', where we wrote each day in Lent. Now that Summer is here, let's keep up the discipline of writing with a weekly writing challenge! A prompt will be posted each week and anyone is welcome to join in and post their writing here or participate just by reading it.

Every writer has their own special light to add to this blog and all of your writing offerings are appreciated, whether poetry, prose, essay, thoughts, lists or comments and encouragement.

  1. Autumn

    He’s lived a full life
    and we’ve loved him dearly.
........The old maple in our backyard
........has been a dear friend for years.
    We’ve reveled in his silliness
    and relied on his love.
    ........We luxuriated in the coolness
    ........of her summer shade
    ........and listened to her rustling.
He’s no longer the silver fox
    with hair that shimmers..
    most of it’s gone.
........Her brilliant red leaves have now dried
    ........and shriveled
........and most have succumbed to gravity.
He still has wisdom we need to know
and memories we long to hear.
    ........As we rake her leaves
    ........and roast our marshmallows
........she gives us one more memory…
    But, his breath is labored…
    the end is near.
...as the bitter winds begin to blow.

  2. Yesterday’s Masterpiece

    Like an artist’s palate
the crimson and golden and orange leaves
    lay on the ground,
    sign’s of yesterday’s masterpiece
not of one yet to come

  3. Nature Takes a Nap

In my part of the world
nature takes a nap each year.
    The leaves fall off,
    the grass goes dormant,
    the bears hibernate,
    birds just leave
    and nature takes a nap.
    She’s beginning to get ready.
    The leaves are becoming brittle.
    The nights are cool now.
    Autumn is nature’s dusk,
    the lullaby,
before the deep sleep of winter.
    Rest well trees.
    Rest well earth.
    Rest well bears and bugs.
We’ll see you in the Spring.
    Shhhhhh…..

  4. The year grows older.
    Daylight weakens, sun grows cold.
    Soon we fall asleep.
