Write Now!

This blog started as a 'Lenten Writing Project', where we wrote each day in Lent. Now that Summer is here, let's keep up the discipline of writing with a weekly writing challenge! A prompt will be posted each week and anyone is welcome to join in and post their writing here or participate just by reading it.

Every writer has their own special light to add to this blog and all of your writing offerings are appreciated, whether poetry, prose, essay, thoughts, lists or comments and encouragement.

Creative Process

Genisis has a great account of God's creative process.  Re-read Genisis 1 and write a poem, or re-interpretation (from the point of view of God, the animals, etc.) of this creation process.  How is your creative process similar?  Write about creation.

  1. Whirling Storm

When God began to watch the whirling storm
And saw beyond the empty darkened void,
God spoke! And starry dust began to form
A world, which filled with life to be enjoyed.

God’s hand enclosed a lump of earth’s new dust.
God’s ear imagined melodies of song.
God’s fingers formed a human soul: robust,
Inspired, created in God’s image, strong.

God’s human creature played in Paradise.
And God rejoiced, and saw it all was good.
But then! That human mind thought it was wise
To go beyond. It heeded not the Word.

God saw it all, and said, “I’ll have to go -
Give them new heart, because I love them so.”

  2. Creation

Chaos danced around God like a whirling dervish
    And God choreographed
God moved and separated the formless void into earth and sky
Waters on the land and waters in the sky
as if swiping them into place on a mighty ipad
    The spirit breathed through God
    Was God
People were created in Gods image
    To have breath flowing through
    And create thoughtspictureswordslove
In creating they become a microcosm of the original artist
Who breathes through them into God’s creation
